Rafting
The Lehigh River has been recognized as one of the best whitewater rivers for group outings due to its class II and III rapids and predictable water flow. Everyone over 10 years of age can have the exhilaration of whitewater on a Gorge trip with one of our local outfitters, and our packages make it quite reasonable. Even though the rapids aren't overwhelmingly dangerous, some people prefer a casual float trip - we have that here, too. The Gorge above town is for the thrill-seekers; the wide, slower valley below town is for the relaxing sun-n-splash seekers. Rafting companies offer Whitewater trips in the Spring, Summer (New!) and Fall , float trips in Summer. Either way, come stay at Mary's Guesthouse and we'll set you up with
a great rafting package!

Dam Releases - 2007
On the Lehigh River, about 30 miles north of Jim Thorpe, the Francis Walter Dam controls the river's flow. Every Spring and Fall, extra water is let out on some weekends, creating whitewater in the Gorge. This year there is a lot more water than usual, and it will also be strategically released during SUMMER weekends, creating more whitewater opportunities than ever before. Plan a rafting trip any of the following days, and remember that Mary's Guesthouse has great discounts and stay-n-play packages.
